Two things:

First off, I <3 Six String really hard. It's an amazing low-budget movie, with as many laughs as there are wonderfully coreographed (if full-o'-cheese) fights. And Buddy Holly makes me hot.

Secondly, from my own experience Equillibrium is viewed less as a Matrix derivitave and more as a Matrix killer, a similarly visionary/unique movie that could easily rival the other.

Yes.  Six String Samurai is an iconic piece of modern cinema.  It should be required viewing in any film studies course.  To throw a few more titles out there, though, on a less sci-fi, but more criminal bent, check Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and especially Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead.

And, yeah, have to agree with Django, if Equillibrium is anything, it's Orwellian.

Considering that it's a modern take on 1984... Yeah, it's Orwellian  Roll Eyes

I need to echo Green Elfs exceptional taste in movies with Resevoir Dogs.

Anyone who plays in the genre, and hasn't seen that movie, needs to watch it above and beyond the fact that Tarintino knows a thing or two about movies.

Resevoir Dogs is one of the many reasons Steve Buscemi is my favorite actor.

Totally in agreement

He and Christopher Walkin pretty much own any role they step into.

Lone Star officer Samuel L. Jackson is trapped aboard a plane filled with snake spirits! Snakes on an Astral Plane. (I am so tired.)

Psscht, I know I was stating the obvious... But somebody has to! I'm tired of my idiot friends in real life referencing everything to the matrix, that's all. Okay, settling down now...

Wow, this is like that time when Trinity got upset with Neo over the whole going 'back in' after Morpheus thing.  Totally classic.

I like how The Matrix is essentially Grant Morrison's "Invisibles" but less cool.

I hear that a lot but I've only got cursory knowledge of the Invisibles... I just know I find counter culture style transcendentalism vaguely annoying, so I never bothered watching any of the Matrix sequels. I just went to the first one, liked the visuals and then being surprised when apparently the movie was a big deal.

Interesting fact -- The antagonist guy from Equilibrium, the black guy who tries to frame Christian Bale, also played a dick in Rent. He was good, too.
