Jonny Mnemonic is about as close as one can get without it actually being SR. Well, I guess animes like Ghost In the Shell can't hurt, either.

Minority Report is not a bad movie to get the technology idea.

Bladerunner is a nice movie because of the dark setting it has.

That's two I can think of right now, maybe more later.

Strange Days has a good take on BTLs and the culture surrounding them...not a bad movie in general.

Straight Shadowrun movies?  Eh, not sure.  But there are hints of shadowrun in a lot of other movies.

Ocean's Eleven, Italian Job, hell even National Treasure.  All these types of movies give you an idea of different types of runs/archetypes.  The Professional, The Transporter, Boondock Saints are also great.  And then the Matrix is kind of shadowruny in that it's futuristic and deals with, gasp, a matrix, but it varies a great deal from Shadowrun.

Ultraviolet, through way WAY in advance of shadowrun's technology, is great in terms of the cyberpunk theme.  Clothes that change color with your mood, greasy long haired yakuza thugs, black clinics set up in the back of container trucks...  It's not the highest quality movie but it's worth seeing to soak up some special effects and cyberpunk vibes  Cheesy

Movies I can think of off the top of my head:

Johnny Mnemnonic (Just add magic and metahumans)
Ultra-Violet (For cultural style more than for the technology, I liked the movie regardless)
Omega Doom (If you want an interesting take on how essence loss can affect humanity and disregard that they're all robots)
Even Judge Dredd has some similarities to SR (Really cheap second hand cyberware, some drones and vehicles)

Trying to think...

Reservoir Dogs for a 'team' just put together and how they might interract.
If it has quasi-legal or flat out illegal elements there is -some- SR elements in it, after all, every runner every single one, is breaking the law and hence, a criminal.

Ronin: Not quite 2060 technology, but the group is definitely shadowrun-style professionals doing their thing well.

I, Robot: Cheesy goodness aside, the main character has a cyber arm. Lots of futuristic tech that may be similar to everyday stuff in 2060. Also has an AI that can control anything linked to the internet.

TekWar: Both tv movies and a series from the 90s. Very Shadowrun feeling I thought. Hackers, cyborgs, BTL-style drugs (Tek). Not sure where to find reruns or the movies though.

Blade movies and series: The high tech weapons and tools have that futuristic cool. (In the series, Blade has Oakley's that have thermographic vision.) Vampires are Shadowrun nasties.

Almost any B-rated Rutger Hauer flick from the 80s-90s: Usually sci fi flicks of the future. Hit or miss on being good, but might be good inspiration for plot devices or characters.

Serenity: I've not seen Firefly, but this movie has a group of mercenaries (or so I'll call them). Aside from the spaceship thing, some stuff is close to Shadowrun material (including a universe-wide matrix).

Futuresport: Dean Cain movie from 98. Based in 2025, around a futuristic hybrid of hockey, football, rollerblading, and motocross. Probably similar in violence to combat biking and other Shadowrun sports.

Equilibrium: Main character rocks with a mixture of martial arts and pistol work. Gunbunnies wished they were as smooth as him.

Escape from New York/Los Angeles: Probably the best vision of the Barrens around.

Virtuosity: Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington. Futuristic vision of virtual reality (definitely the jacked in version), plus Denzel has some cyber parts I remember. Good movie too.

Heavy Metal: Some of the animated stories are very cyberpunk. The taxi one (sorry, its been awhile) comes to mind. Plus, heavy metal music, hot animated chicks, and some weird stories make it fun to watch.

Eh. Enough for now.

-Payback: Mel Gibson (ha), has revenge on former team mates that screw him out of money. I think the Yakuza are in it also.

-HEAT: I think other than Blade Runner this is /the/ Shadow Runner movie (for me anyway). Fixer supplies a team of criminals with intel on a few jobs, they execute said jobs. There's a Mr. Johnson type of Character, computer hacking,  a get a way driver,Police Raids, paranoia, proper team dynamics etc. I don't know, this movie rules.

-The Untouchables, Yea it's the 1920's and they're the good guys. But their team interaction and archetypes apply to any "SR" team.

-Cyber City Oeda 808: Pretty cool Anime series taking place in a dystopian future run by Corporations. Cybernetics a la Shadowrun, less Robot stuff a la Ghost In the Shell. Trio of criminals that are under the wing of a Corporation. It's neat.

-Though it's off topic, anyone interested in "Cyberpunk" should go to one of it's root sources and pick up the "Sprawl Trilogy", by William Gibson:

There was a Shadowrun short film competition in Germany some time ago, and two of the entries have been subtitled into English. www.s-run.com hosts the downloads for these. They're only 20 minutes long, and with budget considerations to account for, you don't get the level of Shadowrun flavor you would if there was any significant metahuman presence beyond the very simple elves, but it's real true Shadowrun.

Tor 3 is the winner of that competition, and it's remarkably professional feeling in its execution. They had to cut it down, however, to meet length restrictions, and I think (though I haven't seen the longer one) that this limits the plot to some degree. It kinda jumps around a lot, but it's cool stuff.

Last Team Standing feels less professional, though it's not like it's terrible or anything, but there's a bit more of a plot to it as well.

I think, anyway, that they're both worth a download.

There are a few movies in these posts I haven't seen yet, but I'm going to make sure I'm going to watch them sometime in the near future.

Rather than the Blade films I would recommend Night Watch and Day Watch.

V For Vendetta

It is now my favorite movie <3  It's not strictly cyberpunk, but it is about a lone man who resists Big Brother and wins.  It'll defeintely get you fired up about playing a noble vigilante street samurai  Wink

Planning/executing a shadowrun -
Someone already mentioned it, but I've always thought "Ronin" was an excellent "how-to" example of a shadowrun. A group of different people with varying skillsets get together to do a job. Heck, you've got half the basic Shadowrun archetypes in play with a rigger, a sam, and a face. The movie itself seems to emphasize professionalism on the job. Always been one of my favorites.

Gun-fu -

"Equilibrium" is sort of a bullet-time matrix knock-off, but even so, it's a pretty good movie in its own right. Dystopian future, lots of slow time gun play that I always like to relate to someone having enhanced reflexes.

"The Matrix" is, of course, also great for this. ;> And even if there's almost no cyberware in evidence, everyone seems to realize that dressing cool is of the utmost importance. (Just like it is in Shadowrun.) The Matrix series is the entire reason I have the irrational desire to attack a semi-truck with a katana. I have yet to actually try this with a GM, due to the sneaking suspicion that one will just hit me with the semi-truck.
