Are they volunteering at soup kitchens to help against hunger where they live?? Are they raising funds to send aid to the poor around the world?? Are they starting a movement to put pressure on corrupt politicians or unjust governments?? No.? They are protesting a work of fiction.
And Jesus wept.

It grows... Is nobody else horrified by the inanity? How about the hypocrisy?

Quote from that BBC one:
The film is adapted from Dan Brown's best-seller, which revolves around the
theory
that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and their descendants survive today.
Funny...I didnt see people in an uproar when Dogma came out....

I remember people being unhappy about Dogma, I was unhappy too after I saw it, I could have used those two hours of my life better by .. I don't know, flushing popcorn down the toliet.
There's always going to be weird groups of people who protest things, remember "Italian Americans against the Sopranos"?, or when Jesse Jackson shot down Amos and Andy.
Besides it could be worse, they could be blowing up KFC's over cartoons.

This isn't an isolated group of nuts, people are protesting this movie the world over.
Well, at least they're not burning down unrelated buildings and killing people like those Muhammad cartoon protesters.

Personally, I love Dogma. Even own a copy.
And it isn't a first for a movie to be boycotted and protested. Happens all the time. Remember when Moore came out with Farhenheit 9/11? Remember the horror over Passion of the Christ being way to bloody and a sellout? Just because Da Vinci Code is causing people to come up in arms doesn't mean anything is going to be done about it. If anything, it's free publicity.
My problem with the movie is casting Tom Hanks into it. I just can't see him as the main character. But if Mel Gibson can make Passion for the Christians, then why can't Opie make Da Vinci Code?
Let the protesters protest and bring more interest into both the book and the movie, it's money either way. If someone doesn't want to see it or hear about it, then let them have their opinion and leave it at that.

The funniest part about the whole fiasco is that the publicity from protests is set to make the movie a global blockbuster, even though it got creamed in the reviews. Irony, thy name is religious hissy fit.

I think the primary assumption of those protesting is that no one walking into the theater is capable of of intellectual thought, such as separating fact from fiction (or for some separating one piece of fiction from another) and drawing their own conclusions.? I'm sure from the protestor's point of view that they are doing God's work (or at least the work that protects the church's coffers) by being proactive and shutting down any possible debate before it really catches fire.? Oddly enough this movie reminds me of another film that laid out a different scenario which could have happened in the life of Jesus that also caused debate.? It came out about the time I was in junior high school:

...Funny...I didnt see people in an uproar when Dogma came out....
You'll also remember Dogma had a disclaimer at the begining of it.
Quote from: Dogma (1999: View Askew Productions)
Disclaimer: 1) a renunciation of any claim to or connection with; 2) disavowal; 3) a statement made to save one's own ass.
Though it'll go without saying ten minutes or so into these proceedings, View Askew would like to state that this film is - from start to finish - a work of comedic fantasy, not to be taken seriously. To insist that any of what follows is incendiary or inflammatory is to miss our intention and pass undue judgment; and passing judgment is reserved for God and God alone (this goes for you film critics too...just kidding).
So please - before you think about hurting someone over this trifle of a film, remember: even God has a sense of humor. Just look at the Platypus.
Thank you and enjoy the show.
P.S. We sincerely apologize to all Platypus enthusiasts out there who are offended by that thoughtless comment about the Platypi. We at View Askew respect the noble Platypus, and it is not our intention to slight these stupid creatures in any way.
Thank you again and enjoy the show.
Which is the very thing the Catholic Church demanded. Course, IMHO, the Catholic denomination has made it a habit to keep the many of the members of Christ's flock, or at least those that affiliate with them, just uninformed and ignorant enough so that they are easily swayed. So, in a way, they are partly to blame if child in the faith is swayed by this film.
Then again, that's just my opinion.

Remember, EVERYONE is a moron about this... How many people remember "Sum of All Fears" where the anti-defamation leagues made them change the badguys who were arabs in the book to some whacked out group of super nazis for the movie... This stuff always crops up, there's always a group that's loud and silly,... the only thing unfortunate is when someone gives in to it.
If I had to choose between a church running off at the mouth, or the ultra-left PC police... I'm going to root for a church, because it seems to be my experiance everyone just ignores them and it's free publicity, the PC police however they actually seem to force this stupidity through.

Things like this are why I have lost any hope in the fundamental worth of the human race, and I eagerly await alien invasion.
Either that, or the dolphins need to rise up and choke a bitch.
Whichever. They both work for me.

I'd prefer the dolphins, myself. Aliens seem much more inclined to eat us or steal our brains, the dolphins just exile us to the sea and live in our houses.
