Welcome to the desert of the real.

« on: March 22, 2006, 11:06:18 PM »

We all know what an...interesting history Seattle has with TS policies. So I figured it would be worthwhile to post our prospective policy and see what people have to say.

TinySex (TS)

TinySex (TS) is the graphic depiction of physical intimacy, i.e., interaction of sexual organs. Also commonly known as cyber-sex.

Shadowrun is an adult game, meant for mature audiences. Players are encouraged to explore the emotional development of their PCs through roleplay. Because of this, sexual themes are often a natural part of character and/or plot development. It is possible to incoporate sexuality into regular gameplay in a non-graphic manner. At no time is any player ever required to participate in graphically sexual roleplay.

While in private places, players are free to do as they choose as regards consensual TS. While in public places, players are prohibited from graphically explicit depictions of sexual activity. Players found to be engaging in public TS, reported by other players or discovered by staff, will be asked to relocate to a private space and gmnoted. A second offense will result in a strike (see Three Strikes Policy).

Rape is always prohibited. Some players, male and female, are uncomfortable with such scenes as a result of personal history or simply through compassion. No player will ever be asked to take part in a rape scene.

Some words of advice:

While that sylvan elfette may be incredibly fetching, that's only the desc you're seeing. The player behind her could be a 62 year old man with a beer gut and halitosis.

If a staffer announces a run starting NOW and you're too busy bumping uglies with some joy-toy to join up, later complaints about the timing aren't likely to be given a lot of attention. For rather obvious reasons.

TS has been the basis for some of the ugliest P-kill chains known to the Shadowrun universe. If you're going to partake, do so responsibly and with maturity. Consider IC (not to mention OOC) ramifications of cyber-sex with someone you really don't know.

STDs still exist in the 2070s.

Why can't  we just completely do away with TS??? It doesn't help anyone and saying its ok doesn't help the game.

It is part of the theme, and it's really hard to regulate what two characters do on their own.  I think the policy sounds fine.

Hell, to an extent even non-consensual sex is part of the theme, although I see (and totally agree with) the reasons for saying 'no' to having it occur where PCs are concerned.  The first few chapters of SR4 make this pretty clear.

It's gonna happen, it's on-theme, policy looks good enough to curb the absolute worst tendencies for abuse.

So roleplaying and doing what you enjoy, if thats your thing, is not helping the game?   I believe seatle once before tried to ban it or did, and lost a good number of people.  And with a already blackened reputation why completely stab yourself in the face.  It -is- in theme.  Heck its a rather large part of theme...prostitution is legal for the most part, theres sex clubs everywhere.  And I don't see how it hurts the game.  Yes i know of the pkill strings on seatle, but i'm more inclined to lean towards the reasoning that it had little to do with the rp, and more to do with the maturity of the players involved.  Heck everyone complains that denver's full of TS bunnies...and there is a ton of promiscuity there...but i think i've seen maybe 2 pkills in 3 years over sex?  And one had nothing to do with ts at all.  One delt with forcing themselves on someone else...  Ofcouse people will say its consents fault, but honestly consent is easy to get around there...

by 'doesn't help the game' I basically was talking about the +nom rings that used to happen among the TSer crowd on Seattle back in I'd say 01' coulda been 00'. I agree that the concept of 'sex' shouldn't be thrown out of a game entirely, its not a cartoon reality where sexual organs don't exist, but I just wouldn't want to see the advent of another +nom ring or pkill string.

nom rings and pkill strings aren't just tied to ts.  I've seen a pkill string linked to somone racking up the bidding at a chairty auction where two of the prizes were dates with certain people.  I've seen nom rings with people who didn't really ts much at all but were constantly rping just with each other.  I've seen nom rings based on people who just were friends.  I've seen pkill strings based on people not liking the other player and making excuses icly to justify it.  Are we going to ban rp as well because it leads to nom rings and pkill strings?  No that'd be silly.

The only time i've seen TS really cause problems is when its done in public where some people didn't aprove/like it and took ooc offense to it.

Oh and now that I think about it, perhapse a amendment to the policy needs to be made to include ic locations such as strip clubs and other such already sexualy explicit locations in the list of where TS is allowed?  Or prehapse allowed there but only with places code?  Thinking about it it feels kinda silly to restrict it from such places.

TS will not be allowed in any public place.

A strip joint features stripping. Not actual sex.

Then you have brothels, fetish clubs and the other like...which is more of what i was refering too...and as per theme strip clubs aren't nessicarily the 'no-touch' strip clubs of today...

No, we don't have brothels or fetish clubs Smiley

If somebody wants to build such a business, that's up to them. They would have to be located in a private space, however.

Overly popular places have always been bomb targets :-)

heh, I like Melkir's thinking. But yeah I understand where runefire is coming from with the argument that nom-rings and pkill strings aren't ts-specific, but I bet if you look at the numbers there's some abuse there too. Ugh, please no fetish clubs or brothels, this isn't shadowrun germany...

If you want to run a brothel, my thought is to second Noors.  Private Place.

Reasons for that?  I, for one, do not want to accidently walk into a place and see people nekkid and bouncing artfully in the middle of the room.  Things like that are part of the reason why you can't have TS in public anyway, not everyone wants to take part in it and not everyone wants to see it.  Yes, we can put warnings in a foyer before entering the brothel, but seriously, people don't always read notes.

If you're character really really wants to get laid with a stranger and pay for the honor, make the brothel yourself or make it off camera.

Just to clarify, when we use the term 'pk string', what precisly do we mean? I mean, I'm not new or nothing, but I am horribly ignorant to the days of yore. I understand a nom-circle, which, honestly, shouldn't be a problem since I think Noms arn't gonna matter so much, depending on what the judgement on that was (I havn't kept up with the forums. Rah!). Even then, I don't see the horrible problem, as long as there was decent RP involved anyway. If you've got a team, and they always RP with each other, why not nom each other. (I'm totally swayable here, btw.) Anywho, right. Clarifycation. Whats a PK string?

P-kill string.

Bob likes Sally. But Sally is in love with John. So Bob takes out John. This pisses Sally off, so Sally takes out Bob. Bob has a running team who needed him desperately. So they take out Sally. Sally's sister, Kate, vows revenge, and takes out Gil, the team's rigger. The team gets mad and takes out Kate. One of Kate's OOC pals feels that this is unfair, and creates a reason to go after the team's face, George....

Get the picture?
