Welcome to the desert of the real.

The Wild West game has been running for a year now, and it's been about six months since my last update. There are a few dedicated players on the MUSH, though not nearly as many as we'd like. People log on and plan runs; there is some social RP. However it seems often difficult for newer players to be integrated into the game, largely because unless they are OOCly social and talkative, they tend to be left out. This isn't unusual. It's just unfortunate. Some players have gone out of their way to be friendly and helpful, however, and they deserve an enormous amount of thanks. It is a player-run game, after all. Staff's primary purpose is to keep the code running and keep an eye on things in general.

We had planned to add a few non-code things to the game to make it more of a world for the players. We discussed planting stories in the news and providing interested player-GMs who responded to them with ready-made runs to go with them. The stories would have added up to an ongoing campaign with room for multiple parties working against one another. Ultimately, after watching how the current players play I decided against it. Although it would have made for a more "world-like" game, the players seem more interested in telling their own stories. There didn't seem much point in a staff of essentially two people going to lengths to plan runs that would never take place. If people are interested in such a plan, we might revisit it. Until then, the game is still yours. Do with it what you will.

No light, but rather darkness visible
Serv'd only to discover sights of woe,
Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace
And rest can never dwell, hope never comes
