Basic Run Thursday 9PM EST

Hi, I got a nice lengthy plot written up, about 4-5 scenes, depending on how you do, set for four runners. Let me know if you want in.
It pays to be well-rounded. Very well-rounded. It'll be of relatively easy-moderate difficulty because I'm new to SR4 and MUSHes. I type fast, and I'll be focused. Just be patient when I stumble on the rules :-)
Length will be about two hours real-time.

Two hours? How much MUSH experience do you have? A typical, not-that-complex run is lucky to take 6 hours. You have to run a tight ship to get much of anything done in two hours...

I have 0 (that's the number that didn't have a symbolic representation for ages) experience in MUSH, and roughly .0001 experience in SR4.
What better way to learn than to start from the top (and fall flat on my face to the bottom)? xP
But no, I don't see it lasting six hours. That's nuts. I don't even know what you guys would do for six hours. Mine is fairly fast, fairly easy, kind of like a quick 1 hour episode of Prisonbreak.

It doesn't work that way, and here's why: there's a delay between each person's action. It's not like tabletop, where everyone is conversing in real time. We have to think of what we want to say, type it up, submit it, and wait. It's normal for there to be a five minute delay between each pose. Five minutes is pretty fast, in fact. And with four players, that's 20 minutes for each round of poses. 20 minutes for everyone to walk in and sit down. 20 minutes for everyone to react to the J's pitch. You can see how that would take a long time, I'm sure...
The GM can of course make it go much faster by writing up scenes and dialogue ahead of time. But if you want it to be fast, you have to limit how much roleplaying happens. Like, set the scene, give everyone one round of poses on entering. Have the Johnson say his piece, then FOR GOD'S SAKE MOVE TO OOC. If people roleplay the negotiation and question-asking, they will take hours and hours. I'm not kidding. A roleplay where one character needs to be convinced to join the run has taken three hours before. Probably more. You have to do as much OOC as possible, just leave in enough RP to give everyone the flavor, but if there is too much free roleplay, you will not be done until dawn.
I usually like to handle the meet like this: GM sets the scene. Players pose arriving. GM poses the Johnson giving his pitch. Then everyone discusses OOCly, says whether they accept, asks any questions, handles any negotiations, whatever. Then, after that's concluded, everyone poses a summary of what they did during the meet, instead of posing it word for word, question for question, hour by hour, we just fast forward through. Then the team plans how to do the job OOCly, and pose a summary of the planning/legwork phase, if they want. And then it's into the action. You've got to do that kind of shorthand, or else, like I said, a really basic run is a minimum of 6 hours.

That's nuts. I imagined a delay, but five minutes is insane. But you are right, there's a lot to discuss. All right. I'll handle a lot of the stuff OOCly and head right into the action. I've already pre-written the basic dialogue, and I'm manipulate successes and thresholds to push the plot towards where I want to go.
Thanks for the advice!

Well gents, seems nobody's interested. Nevermind, no run. It's probably for the better so I can do more reading.

I should point out: if you wanted interested parties to respond here on the forum, you should have mentioned that. There may be people who plan on just logging on. Also, not everyone on the MUSH regularly checks the forum. You may wish to ask people in-game if they are interested

Like me. I check the forums about once a week, but I'm on more frequently than that. I wouldn't of been able to make it anyways on Thursday. I only have free time really on Mon/Tues.

I'm trying to do small runs every few days. Last night took four hours, and we only got through a third of what I had planned. Just hit me up if you're on, I pretty much idle 24/7.

Yeah same here. I just noticed this post and I dont log in too often, sometimes i'm just buisy IRL. So usually the best way to get a hold of me is PM me or leave an @mail. At least if I can plan ahead of time I can see if it's going to conflict with my RL schedule or not as it's rather tightly set up to a month in advance.
I would however be interested in trying to get involved in some more runs so I'll try hitting you up in game.
As to all the time delays, as has been said before 5 mins between poses is making very good time, 10-15 between poses is not unheard of either.
