Presumably when we 'go official', it'll be using the events of SR's canon up to a certain point?

I assume, with the crash and all. But Seattle going dark because of a horrific pandemic might be kinda a big deal. Its difficult to say how it might've effected the Crash or the NewRev Coup.

Yes, that's one of the issues we've been trying forever to pin down. For now, I think it would be fair to assume things happened as described in official product.

Then reopen the old grid and run the plot.

I did, you were offline, you failed the roll. I feasted on your flesh.
I will do it again.

Did you say 'om nom nom' while doing it?

No. Absolutely not.

The reason I never stuck around on Seattle old version the three times I tried to get involved there were due to so many karma monsters and clique's that I could do nothing BUT bar RP. I even got KILLED by a karma monster once because my decker didn't appreciate getting hit on by a yakuza physad.

I mean really, it's a new game, NEW GAME. If you want to play your old char, remake using 400 bp's just like everyone else is. It's entirely possible to make an extremely skilled 400 bp character. Tear and I do it all the time. So do others.

The whole idea of it being an 'investment' is bullshit from the get go and I will explain why:

It. Is. A. Game.

If you had FUN with those old characters, then you got the payment out of that investment. That story is over, time to move on. Just like there will be no more Harry Potter books, shelve the memories and try something new.

To post my two cents and simply to repeat what others are saying:  No conversions.

There is no obligation of staff running a personlized plot ending for every character on the old game.  RL matters more than in-game life.  If you have the two swapped I'd suggest taking a break and looking for an alternative time sink.  Come up with your own ending, make a short story, or reinvent the character as new here and now in the new game.

Cheers.

At present, the plan is for staff to not run anything anyways. We still lack sufficient numbers, and you guys are doing so well...

"But Waffle," the voices cry, "What about the story arc?"

Well, we're going to be writing events, and prepping runs. We'll give you objectives, NPCs, things like that. But we're hoping you guys, and especially the ones who want to run things but don't have anything prepared, will actually run them.

I for one had fun with my old chars, but SR4 offers a lot of new options in many ways that I've had fun playing around with.

That said, at least so long as we are playing open sand box, I'd like to see how a 'high end, high BP' game would actually run, as I've never really had a chance to do stuff like that with SR.

I agree, someone should run a high end campaign!  I would be all over that like a sneer on Dick Cheney's face!  It would let people really make use of some of the Companion races too -- free spirits and AIs and shapeshifters are pretty sucky in a 400bp campaign, because they've got so much karma to go before they measure up.

No. No. No.

Go to Denver, regen there. Pretend your karma monster had a parallel life that involved cowboys, elfbians and mountains instead of Yakuza, elfbians and the Sound. But for goodness sake, don't bring the old back here (and yes, my name is Kage and I was a Seattle Karmaholic. 646 karma I think before it all came tumbling down).

Don't take staff time setting up/running anything official around conversion.

If you want to test drive a 600 BP + campaign, log on to OGR with like-minded people, and go from there. I'd hate to see our already totally understaffed staff have to spend ANY time tweaking anything on the mush or webpage so people can build greater than 400 BP PCs for a test drive. Let's see people run stuff for the 400 BP people we have on grid, consistently and frequently, and then talk about how to ADD to an already great setting.

No. No. And No. Go Away with your conversion shmersion.

But before you do, don't forget to donate to Absinthe's Bridge Fund.

Agreed. Only it's called Gateway now, not OGR.

Why would they need to tweek anything for the CG in order for people to do an over 400BP build? I mean you build it up to the 400bp, gen it, put it on the grid then just use the already provided in game sheet modification system to just mod it up to the level it should be for a higher BP build.

I mean other than people trying to keep honest and the potential ability to see who isnt staying honest via the changes log posted to the forum, there's nothing actually stopping anyone from doing this to begin with.

Given that there is nothing separating the 400BP from the 401+BP characters, we ask that you at least put the phrase 'CHEATER' in your description if you exceed the 400BP limit.

Heh.

-Hades, could always do it for you.

This is a question that doesn't even need to be asked.  Let's KISS and just start with a clean slate.  If people want to bring over old character concepts, fine, but why do we need to start the MUSH with a huge playerbase disparity?
