...that aren't bars or restaurants.

Some RP was had last night in a PRP room that doubled as a Stuffer Shack, and the versatility of said Shack as an RP venue is pretty obvious. It's one of the settings that really defines Shadowrun (the list of the products found in the Food Fight run can tell a lot about what people eat, wear, and use in 2073).

This got me to thinking about what other place really have the 'feel' of Shadowrun that would be good spots to have on our grid? Does anybody have a favorite location in Seattle (well, granted, just Redmond right now, but eventually a bigger area) that they'd like to see on the grid for roleplay spots?

And if we get a good list, could we get a little expansion on the grid to make RP more fun and interesting? Not all of us go to bars to relax.. what other venues would people like to have available?

There are other locales already on the grid. Ones that are not restaurants or bars. There are currently no plans to expand the grid, nor is the playerbase large enough to justify expansion. We're talking a little about opening a new area...but so far that's all it is: just talk.

We all get a little nuts, sometimes.

Just to chime in on this subject and lend my own two cents, I tend to agree with Xenon on this. I understand Noors points about not wanting to expand the grid due to our presently limited Player Base. But look at the locations we have?

On the IC Map of the Redmon District, there are 14 exits leading to about 17 different IC locations
Of that 17;
8 of them are Bar/Restaurant/Nightclubs - that's about 50% of the IC locations offering the same kind of scene.
2 Clinics - No PC Docs, only really needed from fall out from runs or rare ic augments - minimal use.
4 mall concourses   (2 in redmond center 2 in squatters mall)
- These could be expanded some, perhaps, identify some shops in them to give more interesting places to RP

Plastic Jungle   I can't see this being used in general RP
Rat's nest   Potential, but more for riggers and smugglers IMHO
Crashzone   Potential, but more for TPs in my mind… no desc of an actual business there for a reason for character Developmental RP

and that's your 17.
Boils down to  6 different IC settings, not all of which applicablee to people on the mush.

One of the comments on the Announcements board was to think outside of TPs and run and looking at RP for Sheet growth, but look at RP for character growth - With only 6 different kinds of locations to RP, it hinders RP growth.

Having something on grid that could help Runners get together to rp working on skills or working together in other settings could be cool. Remember old seattle with the Gym? RP from work outs to spars were held their, sandboxing combat rules, adepts testing skills against sams, people working ICly on improving their +stats. The magical shop, the coffee shop, etc.

If we don't want to grow the grid, perhaps we could look at hiding some of those bars for now and putting something else there in their place. Add more bars when we have more people?

Alternatively, why not have a forum of 'seattle locales' and have descs and details about other seattle locales to be used in PRP rooms? like we did with the stuffer shack.

Why should I go on the grid when NOTHING ever happens?

IMO, the grid is not a big issue.  The issue is code!  Sweet, sweet code!  That's what I hope the staff focuses on, because that's what we need.  An inventory system that keeps track of ammo effectively, private and public spaces so we can customize our own grid locations, a chargen that's fully functional...  These things are all vastly more important than a bigger grid.

Theres nothing from stopping you guys from being creative and utilizing prp rooms just as you said, I actually encourage this method because when someone has to set an initial description they are most likely establishing pose order as well as being somewhat of an assured hand in guding the background when necessary. Then again, i'm sure anyone could step in and decide they would like to oversee this general rp.  I really like the idea of a thread started for shareware virtual spaces that you players can share with each other however to be used in the prp rooms. Players can then have common descs that they can cut and paste into prp rooms when they feel like being/creating the public scene itself.

The grid as an entirety, is meant for the next phase of the game that was planned but then altered due to our resource limits.  Code is and always a top priority because that is indeed what we need to expand upon in order to move ahead from our bare bones system currently. The locations for the most part seem like an out of place artifact in Wild West except to those willing to really put forth the effort to make them flourish. If someone ran a fixer's bazaar at the squatters mall, they damn well better make it a bustling scene. And there are challenges with that, both rewarding and frustrating.

Since players can run whatever they like in the prp rooms, one could have all sorts of venues available, but you should have the proper formatting and spelling for your colleagues virtual space rolodex if you guys do  start a thread

They don't even have to be in a prp room.  Say you create a shop to hang out in front of at the mall.  Just go to the mall, paste the desc into your posing and so be it.  Re-paste it and change it as you wish when new people come in.  The best times I've had is when multiple people are messing with what's going on in the background.

I think it's a great idea to start a thread for random area descs that people can add to and take from.
