Ha. Leave it up to you guys to turn a post about shadowrun plots into hating on some internet group. No need to hide your animal instinct behind the facade of hate! *lix all of you and fuzzles your ears*
I VOTE METAS vs. HUMANS
Society nowadays is all about whiny babies and their politics its news AND entertainment. Good old racism is always a nice spice though!

Ah but Moira, hating on the Furries is the new in thing!
As for me I voted none of the above. Not because none of the choices intrests me, but more becuase simply focusing uppon ONE THING does not interest me. Life is complex and varied and I love looking into themes from spirituality to ethics, morals, tech vs magic and all the rest.

They're trying to write a story Jurgen. Not some kind of great epic novel about life, the world, and everything. They're trying to make a story arc with a beginning, middle, and an end. Typically those have to have a theme (i.e. be ABOUT something) or they're very meandering and sucky.
Anyway, for all the people who didn't vote Freedom vs. Servitude, what were you doing during Pirates of the Caribbean? Sleeping? That's the only way you could hear about that theme and not instantly picture savory adventure on the high seas... Or its modern equivalent, anyway.

I went for corps vs governments because the fallout of that is lots of work and reasons for jobs, dangerous jobs, where I will finally not be over-prepared and actually be worried about my chars survival!
But, maybe that's just me...

We do not intend for this arc to become an all-consuming hell-entity that is the be-all and end-all of RP on New Seattle. You are all free to continue on with whatever RP you like to fill in where we don't. (And there will be lots of those spaces.) Moreover, and I think this gets more to your concerns, we hope that we're capable of touching on multiple themes in this arc. It just needs a main driver of conflict to keep things focused, lest we end up like Old Seattle and give up on everything halfway through.

Voted for Purity vs Corruption. Of course, knowing me, I'd end up trying to find a comfy spot somewhere in the middle.

Its a great concept, but the Pirates of the Caribbean angle is precisely why I didn't chose that one. I often play characters in the middle, who maybe do criminal things, but are quite fine with society otherwise. When you start focusing on a Freedom v. Servitude, I find things start boiling down to 'noble anarchy' v. 'corporate/government slavery'. The idea /of/ a middle ground tends to go out the window for extremes, which I find just silly. Its one of the things I didn't really like about Pirates of the Caribbean (being that I have no sense of humor and over-analyse /everything/) The pirates are the freedom loving good guys? Really? Really? The comparison between Pirates and Emperors comes to mind, in reverse. The East India Company were bad guys because they were oppressive and monopolistic. The pirates would /still/ be dictators or tyrants, if not petty ones controlling a smaller stake. At least the EIC funded order.
I play characters with fake IDs because they're doing illegal things with fake IDs. Not because they fear oppression. Though, being more aware of personal security can't ever hurt.

I think we've got a good idea which two options are most popular. I'll close voting on Tuesday.

I went with Freedom vs Servitude because I think that this is Shadowrun at it's very core. Wageslave vs Runner, at every turn. The security of having a home and a family to go to vs the Freedom to go where you want and do what you want. I very much hope that a campaign arc can be considered where this choice is highlighted and brought to the surface, but it is such a deeply rooted idea.
What kinds of things could be done to really focus on these ideals?

Shades: I'm not sure freedom vs servitude really lends itself to -runs-, though...Fiction maybe, but not runs.
Hence why I picked corps vs governments. Or corps vs corps vs governments vs governments... Or gov't vs gov't, or corp vs corp.
May be less grand-scale, but infinitely more playable and runnable.
What can I say, I'm a practical person.

Another one: being on fire vs. not being on fire!
Also: Being a limbless torso vs. all limbs in place.
And don't forget: Dying of hyper-plague vs. dying of massive raccoon trauma.
I know Melkir is writing these down!

Poll has been updated for the runoff. If your choice was one of those eliminated, please pick whichever of the final two options you'd prefer. If not, your vote still counts and there's no need to update it. Voting will close no sooner than one week from tomorrow.

Well then. That's very interesting.
Considering the extremely strong turnout for Purity & Corruption, I think we'll see if we can't work some of that into the plot as well.
Thanks to everyone who voted. We'll keep you posted.
