New Grid II - Public Destinations (1/2)

The G-Space room(s) will have a list of public destinations. These are universally accessible to all players, and are the only truly static real time spaces on the grid for people to roleplay in. Because of their static nature, each destination should be carefuly chosen to provide stability and diversity.
It is in these destinations that all PC's can potentially find each other.? Each local should offer some peice of environment or service(s) that the others don't. No player will have direct control over any of these destinations.? Rather, they destinations will have a thematic set of guidelines for the nature of the roleplay environment there.
Please don't jump to conclusions...it's not as strict as you may be thinking. The theme guidelines are simply documentation that will allow players to have an idea of what kind of environment they may be heading into...what kind of NPCs they may find there and how those NPCs interact with the world.? It sets the stage to hopefully establish a commonground vision for IC reality at that destination. The game masters define the IC reality guidelines of public destinations, and those destinations serve not only as universally known gathering grounds, but as stages and springboards for the GM storylines. The number of Public destinations will be kept rather low.
Some of the Destinations are relatively small.? They may be an infamous/famous NPC owned and operated bar, nightclub, street clinic, or even hotel. These destinations are easy gathering ground for quick roleplay and interaction.? It is in these places that players can find each other readily.
Other destinations represent a fairly large area.? They aren't quite as large as 'g-space', but they can be about the same size as a large mall or small township.? These destinations set the stage for allowing the PC's to have an impact on the public grid.? It is within these locations that a PC may rent a 'Public Space' to establish their own shops/bars/etc.? Public spaces will be explained further in another topic soon to come.

Just one thought on this talk of public places and destinations, what are we doing with MADs? the bane of newbie existence, of walking into a joint blissfully unaware and find out you've set off some alarm and possibly within a week already being GMnoted because you didn't know better?
If we keep it, I'd recommend a more friendly system, especially while we all adapt to a new grid and what is hooked up with a MAD... how about a 3 strike system.. It checks you when you're about to go in and gives you a friendly warning that reminds you about your weapons, this is done 3 times, the 4th time you will by pass this friendly warning and risk triggering the MAD when you go through, get your MAD gmnote and etc.

Im lucky, I was only ever dumb enough to wander into one place (the damn Bank) with a weapon (a damn switchblade). Most of the time I checked what I had in my pockets before I went on the nights RP
At least most of the places on the new grid wont have MADS. But theres a few that probably would. And no doubt more once the grid expands.

Well, what I'd recommend there is something of a theme guideline, that isn't enforced by code. We all know that no one's going to carry a weapon into the bank unless they're trying something, or OOCly forgot. If its the former, well, then they'd have to RP it, and someone would have to be notified, theme would be rectified, nothing lost. If its the latter, well, then you shouldn't be punishing the poor guy, because ICly he wouldn't have it.

The counter to that is what happens if two players get into a fight in such a location and one says 'LOOK! I have XXX in my inventory.' Hopefully, this won't be a significant problem -- but it is definately something to consider from an admin perspective. MAds are an option, which I personally hate. The other option, which is more reasonable in my opinion, is to simply have an OOC note that having certain items in a room will result in XXX. If a person wants those certain type of items, they must +judge to note that they have them ICly.

This is probably a good way to go about things. Just mention to the player that hey, you can't have that ICly in here, and there, now you know. If there happens to be a tussle of that sort, well, then the player can point to the note and say, "Nah uh!" And the judge would have a guidline to say, "Yeah, hes right. Nah uh."

I agree with Xandar on this. More soft-enforcement of theme, and less hard 'gotcha!'-style MAD enforcement. Players are smart, and judges are smart. If you want to RP having your gun in the bank, you can RP out the consequences.
