Okay, fired off an email to tech support and I got a message back that made my brain bleed.  I'm posting it up on here to see if you guys can (or know someone who can) figure out the answers for me.  Here is the information sent to me:

We have received your request and are in the process of researching it. We appreciate your patience. Although you have provided us with port 2012 we require the port numbers and protocols for your VPN connection:

Ports & protocols that your VPN application requires: ? (These will me TCP (Outbound or Inbound), UDP (Send/Receive, Receive/Send, Send or Receive) IP-Level (sometimes incorrectly called Protocol 50) (Send/Receive). ...

And then:

We will need the port information (this will be TCP/UDP/IP-Level & the direction S/R, R/S, S, R, Outbound or Inbound) & if the ports are NON industry standard, we can add them to the firewall so that you can access your VPN.

Any ideas?  From what I gathered, I'm looking for this:

TCP (don't know Outbound or Inbound) IP-Level: 6? (Don't know Send/Receive)

So TCP/6 (Outbound AND inbound?) port 2012.

Thanks for the help, anyone who can do so!

It looks like they're quite far off of what you're looking for. You're simply looking to make a TCP/IP port connection on port 2012. You're not creating a tunnel connection or any sort of fancy thing, just looking to do on port 2012, what most would do on port 23 (standard telnet).

Most ISPs don't block outbound connections like this...

I know.  Trust me, I know.  When I got on the phone with them, I was talking to someone from another country.  Go Army!  Anyway, yeah.  I asked them to do just that earlier on and they went into the whole VPN crap.  So, hopefully the email I fired off to them will get those guys to understand what I'm trying to do.  I had no idea a tech support person who focused on this crap wouldn't know what I was talking about.

My first email basically went like this:

Hi, I'm requesting to have the following ports unlocked from 17 August until 03 September: port 2012 and 2626.

I then gave them the exact IP address of both sites in case they were capable of limiting me to -only- connecting to the two sites through that port.  Maybe that's where they thought I was talking about VPN.

In the end, if they even open up the ports through VPN, I can probably do a workaround in order to log on.  But that is still relying on them to at least open up the port.

They problably are assuming you're using VPN because VPN's are thought to be generally well-secured connections. Asking the army to open up a port completely is going to be tough to get done. Though... if they are in another country who knows whats possible : )

Like Melkir said tell them you need to be able to make a TC/IP connection through port 2012. Giving them the sites you'd be connecting to is a good idea as they can add them to a white list.
