As of this writing, we are going to start the game with a focus on the Redmond District and no more than 20 public destinations.  Right now 14 locations have been selected.  7 are in touristville, allowing a reasonably safe environment for most players.  The other 7 are in 'The Barrens' are have the potential for the serious grit some people crave.

As was previous mentioned...Public destinations may be a small place or a relatively large locale. What fallows are the destinations that have been selected as of the time of this writing and a brief synopsis of their nature. Please keep in mind...a destination may be removed or a new one added if we find a need for it.

The Joke (Tourtistville; Bar; no public spaces)
Run by the Yakuza, the Joke also serves as a base of operations for their black-market operations.

The Jackal's Lantern (Tourtistville; Bar; no public spaces)
Decked out in barbed wire and old halloween decorations, the Lantern is a favored hangout of the Halloweeners Gang.

The Banshee (Tourtistville; Nightclub; no public spaces)

The Skeleton (Tourtistville; Nightclub; no public spaces)
The Skeleton is the hottest nightclub in Touristville, located on the southern edge of touristville near Bellevue. Redmond's best muscian's make the trek out to the Skeleton almost every night in hopes of being 'discovered' by one of the talent scouts or media-corp people who frequent the club.  It also attracts Bellevue's young and well-off, who enjoy the thrill of "slumming it" in Redmond.

Dr. Bob's Quick Stitch (Tourtistville; street clinic; no public spaces)
Street doc serving the SINless and those needing 'discreet' medical intervention/attendance.

Redmond Phoenix House (Tourtistville; Medium Restaurant; no public spaces)
   Japanese-American cuisine.

Redmond Center (Tourtistville; Mall and Luxury Hotel; public spaces)
A two concourse mall and a Luxury <that's right...you heard me> hotel.  Redmond center is a reflection of the pinnacle of 'civilization', law and order within the District. Underworld activy within it's walls are kept on the extreme of down lows. No illegal activity is done in plain sight or where others might overhear.

Novelty Hill Sleep 'n Eat (The Barrens; No-frills Hotel; no public spaces)
A converted warehouse stacked with sleep cubicles and a caffeteria-like medium sized eating establishment.

Crusher 495 (The Barrens; Restaurant; no public spaces)
Owned and operated by a group of Orks, who created it after the night of rage, the 495 has been carefully cultivated by it's owners to be a sort of 'community center'.  Racists have attacked the place more times that anyone can count, but the 495 offers such a successful opportunity for all the races to gather peacefully that the entire comminity helps to protect it and rebuild when necessary. One would be hard pressed to find a more truly neutral place in all of the Barrens.

Body Mall (The Barrens; Medical 'Mall'; public spaces)
Located in one of the less radiated parts of 'Glow City', The Body mall is an abandoned hospital that was taken over by a group of street docs and former staff who offer legal and not-so-legal medical service to anyone who can afford it. The hospital's four floors are set up like a 'shopping mall' of street clinics, illegal chop-shops, body clinics and similar operations.

Squatter's Mall (The Barrens; Black Market 'Mall'; public spaces)
Squatter's took over this small shopping mall and eventualy it became an established structure with a fair amount of neutrality.  Here dealers in illegal goods (BTLs and street drugs, black-market items) via to peddle their wares in an attempt to get a visitor's money before anyone else manages a similar sale.

Plastic Jungles (The Barrens; Tribal type meta-community locale; public spaces)
Some members Meta-humanity, distrusting and fearful of human-kind and seeking sancturary, found within the near wilderness a large system of abandoned Agri-domes which had once been a mostly failed experiment to make toxic soil fertile enough to grow agri-crop.  The domes are split up into tribal like squatter communities and co-exist somewhat harmoniously, with the largest dome serving as neutral gathering ground for them all to meet and barter as they scratch out a tribal life off "the grid".

Crash Zone (The Barrens; Squatter town locale ruled by escaped convicts; public spaces)
A spaceplane crash, specifically the 3 kilometer in radius explosion and subsequent fires, leveled the landscape of this small township and killed most of area's few thousand residents. As if this catastrophy wasn't enough, the crash did major damage to nearby prison facility causing the release of hundreds of rioting inmates who flooded out and wrecked whatever was left standing. The massive prison break ended in the prisoners taking control over the Prison and township.  It has since become a no-man's land where the only law is that of the former prisoners (now known as zoners) and their leader, a heavily cybered human who is known as 'King Chrome'.  He uses the prison, the largest and most secure building left in the area, as a palace.  The zoners defend their territory fiercley with weapons from the former prison and township and whatever they can manage to build, buy or steal.  They do however allow squatters to set up shop in the area as long as the newcomers recognize King Chrome and the zoner's authority.

Rat's Nest (The Barrens; Trash Town locale; public spaces)
Officaly known as the 'North Seattle Refuse Center' this area is a huge, open-air garbage dump several kilometers wide.  The nest is home to nearly thousands of squatters who live in ramshackle huts and tents on the mountains of garbage. Some make a living by picking through the trash, scavenging for anything that can be used or sold. Others attempt to run local buisnesses, literaly carving them out of the trash with whatever materials can be obtained and gathered. The nest is infested with rats, devil rats and other scavengers, which frequently come to the aid of local Rat Shaman's.

Suggestion: Get rid of the Joke and the Banshee. Both of those have a lot of SR-Old history.

Any suggestions on replacements?  Please keep them to Touristville as that's where these two are from.

I haven't looked at the SR4 books to find out if there's any cannon info and don't have New Seattle (the SR3 book), but I'd definately suggest something out of those. Your standards should either be true canon or something 100% unique to the new Seattle game that can become a core unique theme to the MUSH.

The only other bar in NS is The Mad Woman, an alleged nightclub that is 'mostly a sleazy bar with little music and less dancing.' So we'd have to come up with at least one new joint, and I got no ideas on me.

I have New Seattle and the old sourcebook as well. Unfortunately, I don't have them here at work with me. But I believe Waffle's right. All of the places are canon, and Kynan's included just about everything that I recall offhand. I'll take a look when I get home...

I may have a few suggestions in my archives. But will be Friday before I can get to them. As we, will be Friday before I'll have my sourcebooks as well...  stupid moving.

Without my sourcebooks, I can think of a few places in Redmond to think about:

1. Redmond District Hall - The local center of what government there is.
2. Redmond District Court - The local center of the judiciary
3. Hollywood Correctional Institute - Seattle's Prison.
4. Shiawase Atomics plant - It's a fusion plant.

And what's frightening is that I remember all of these without having touched those SBs in months. I am a geek. Grin

Penta:

All of those are nice, but what we're really looking for is backdrops/stages for regular RP.  Most of those would very rarely be used or visited, with the possible exception of the Prison (Oz in Shadowrun maybe? Tongue)  depending on how many people get themselves caught. Wink

I'd agree with coding the Prison and the Atomic Plant, specifically because they're canon, and plenty of it. The District Hall might be a good idea as well. Give us some place to run the RP with our Government contacts. But other then that, I can't think of many places for general hanging out. Mabye some street corner? Or a place thats gamewise useful?

Beyond the usual nightclub/bar thing, here's a couple ideas staff has come up with.

  • Firing Range
  • Casino
  • Junkyard
  • Park
  • Sportsplex

Anybody got any preferences or other ideas?

Firing Range would have to be attached to a fixer / underworld gunsmithy but I like the idea. A legal firing range wouldn't be a great thing on a SR M where most people are underworld related.

Casino might be worth using, but similar thing -- make it a bookie environment.

A park would rock for espionage-type things. I mean, what better place for a dead drop?

Similarly, the Sportsplex (The new KingDome?) would kick ass for meets.

Well, things can be illiegal and legal at the same time. I would suggest some sort of quasi place thats a gun range. A place thats 'legal', but wouldn't mind relaxing a few 'rules' for customers of the right persuasion.
